OK, so I have tried to cover all the things I think you want to know about me and the work I do for my clients. However if you still have questions about copywriting, check out the answers to your questions below and opposite:

Q. What is Copywriting?

A. Since the birth of the advertising and marketing business it’s been a combination of clever visual ideas and creative writing that have been used to communicate the difference between one product over its’ competitors and why you should buy it. Almost all memorable advertising in newspapers, magazines, TV, radio or the cinema features an eye catching headline or brilliant script. The skill of the copywriter is to provide clear, persuasive copy that will communicate their client’s message to their target market. Today if you’re serious about promoting your business professionally you will need the help of the right copywriter to produce advertising, websites, press releases, brochures, case studies, company profiles, blogs and even your LinkedIn profile, Twitter and Facebook status page.

Q. Why do I need to have my website written by a professional copywriter?

A. Because the internet is in the first instance a visual medium many companies and individuals make the mistake of seeing the copy content as something that fills the spaces between the pictures. This surprising about turn is strange when we think that very few people would take this approach to their own company brochure or product manual! Copy for your website is just, if not more, important than the images as it must establish the trust in the company and its products. It’s also important that the copy flows to a conclusion encouraging the customer to carry through the sale or make contact.

Q. What is SEO Copywriting?

In short SEO means Search Engine Optimisation and the copy for websites needs to be carefully written to ensure it’s keyword rich and reflects the company’s brand messages while still engaging the user.

Q. If I write the copy will you edit it?

A. Some of my clients like to do their own writing and I am happy to check the content, grammar and spelling. My simple and cost effective service will also help to ensure the copy flows and is interesting and relevant to the reader. I have edited everything from company reports to technical catalogues and tender documents.

Q. How do I see the copy and can I change it?

A. If time allows I will usually provide an outline, first draft and final copy. At each of the first two stages you can make any changes you think necessary.

Q. Who will own the copy when it is written and who will own the copyright?

A. As soon as my final invoice is paid in full the copy becomes yours with the copyright made over to the client.

Q. How will you supply the copy you write?

A. All the copy I write is supplied as an MSWord.doc unless other readily available software is requested.

Q. What does your price include?

A. I will break down the cost in my proposal document and this will detail exactly what you will get for your money. My quoted price will include everything we have agreed I should write.

Q. How long will it take?

A. This really is a “how long is a piece of string” question. It basically depends on the scope of the project, the reference available and my commitments at the time but I will give you clearly defined deadlines when I send my proposal. However I understand the deadlines you face and to give you a rough idea, 300 to 400 words will take one or two days if the reference is available.

A. You’ll find me on the end of a phone or reading my email in either of my offices in rural East Yorkshire or Andalucía, Southern Spain.

A. My clients include company executives, designers, web development companies, marketing and PR businesses, public sector communicators in enterprises across the UK and Europe.

Q. What are your specialities?

A. I have extensive experience in writing almost any type of marketing and advertising copy. My specialities are business to business (B2B) and website copywriting. Recently I have been working with European, Canadian and North American Companies who needed their promotional copy to appeal to customers in specific geographical areas. For example I have recently worked on a set of Spanish financial products for the UK market and helped a Canadian footwear company to be understood by the sophisticated Scandinavian market.

Q. Can you write for technical products or new market sectors?

A. I love a challenge and I will apply my enquiring mind to any new project. With the right research and answers to a lot of questions I will turn out understandable, relevant and jargon free copy.

Q. How do I know if you’re any good?

A. Well, really the proof of the pudding is that I have been working as a writer in the advertising and marketing sector for many years and my clients keep paying their bills. Projects I have been involved in have won everything from Creative Circle and Art Directors Awards to Advertising Effectiveness Accolades and local Yorkshire marketing association “Best Campaign”.

Q. Will you come and see me?

A. Usually meeting face to face is not necessary. By using email, the phone or Skype I can achieve a comprehensive brief and this form of communication keeps the cost down. However if you need to talk face to face about a large project my travel and meeting time will be included in the proposal.
